CEP 810 - Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Professor Joe Codde
This course was the start of my Masters in Educational Technology (MAET) program and the overall focus was to improve teaching through technology use. The use of the Internet was an integral part of the course, both because of its power to improve the effectiveness of the course and because of the importance of the Internet in its effect on education. We learned the uses of a RSS feed page and how it can be used in the educational setting.
Spring 2010
CEP 811 - Adaptive Innovative Technologies in Education
Professor Joe Codde
Adapting Innovative Technology in Education taught me how to apply instructional principles and methods to educational problems; to develop individualized media and computer applications for use in a professional setting; and to adapt advanced software options to promote learning. Specifically, the focus was on the development of stand-alone instructional resources using the Internet and PowerPoint. These projects were created either in small groups or individually, so we learned how to collaborate too.
CEP 812 - Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Professor Joe Codde
In this course, I learned how to integrate productivity tools and web-based resources in school settings that help improve teaching and learning. Specifically, this course focused on the identification of a significant instructional problem, the development of a detailed proposal directed at the solution to the defined problem, and the development of a desktop presentation designed at presenting the proposal. The course also addressed using technology as a tool to address problems and opportunities in the work of educating in the K-12 setting.
Spring 2011
CEP 800 - Learning in Schools and Other Settings
Professor Cary Roseth
This course explained how to better understand a students’ thought processes during the learning process and the various technologies that can be used to capture this thinking. I created teaching artifacts using audio, video, and web applications. Specifically, we had to create a podcast that included an interview with a student. We also created a digital story book using Audacity and movie maker software. We also learned how to gather information about how students think about various concepts.
CEP 820 - Teaching Students Online
Professor Leigh Wolf
This course centered around creating a fully-functioning online course for K-12 students. As the course progressed, elements of online teaching such as assessment, design, and collaboration were discussed. I created an online module on Life Skills for seventh and eighth grade students was created during the course of this class.
Fall 2011
CEP 806 - Learning Science with Technology
Professor E. David Wong
This course did what just the title says, learning science with technology. We learned how to use the internet to enhance a science curriculum. The course showed how a virtual science classroom can be just as worthwhile as a face-to-face classroom, but using virtual fieldtrips, virtual science activities, and reading online journals, magazines and more. Then using the information we gained, we created different science integrated lessons.
CEP 815 - Technology and Leadership
Professor Nick Sheltrown
Technology and Leadership focused on how the use of technology in a leadership environment. We had to realize what it means to be a true leader and what types of leaders are out there. The main focus was to understand that when using technology in the classroom it needs to enhance the lesson and have a purpose when being used; instead of saying that you have the newest high-tech piece in your classroom. This course helped me realize how what type of leader I want to become and how to achieve it.
Summer 2013
CEP 816 - Techonology, Teaching, and Learning Across the Curriculum
Professor Rand Spiro
This course focused on the different types of technology that could be used in the classroom. We explored and examined the uses of web pages, wikis, blogging, social media and more. We discussed how to use these across any curriculum, and how they teach, engage, and provide meaningful experiences for learners. We learned how to do an open-search, which consisted of searching a topic and being open to all the answers related to the topic. It allows the learner focus on multiple possibilities rather than searching for the quick answer.
CEP 822 - Approaches to Educational Research
Professor E. David Wong
This course focused on the importance of understanding how research is conducted. We learned about the different types of research and how they differ from each other. The major project was a Research Review Project, which started with a topic/question we wanted to learn about and finding 15 or more sources to assist in achieving this. We were asked to focus on how the research was conducted, data collected, and results. Then using this research we were to reevaluate our own topic/question. I felt I learned how much work goes into the research process, but how important the process is.
Fall 2013
CEP 807 - Proseminar in Educational Technology
Professor Matthew Koehler
This capstone course guided my reflection of the past few years and assisted in my organization of the work I completed to best showcase my strengths and growth as a part of the Masters in Education Technology program. Peer review and personal reflection played a large part in the completion of the course and this professional portfolio that you are exploring right now. It also introduced new platforms for an online course and discussion forum.
